The 2023 Lexus LC 500 Convertible’s triple-digit price tag is high by any standard, but it’s the best and most comfortable convertible coupe in the Corvette, BMW, and Porsche C8 league. We don’t care if it’s the fastest or most exciting GT coupe. Just one look turns our knees to dirt, and the thought of revving up the naturally aspirated V8 LC 500 has no hesitation in doing so with our roof down and sunglasses on.
For the 2023 LC 500 Convertible, Lexus took a “don’t fix what ain’t broke” approach. It’s a good thing Lexus says this convertible isn’t just a “short-roof replica” of its sibling. On the other hand, the automaker has done some significant things to facilitate the jump in top performance.

What Lexus calls the 2023 is a four-layer lightweight soft top that uses magnesium, aluminum and hydraulics for quiet, trouble-free operation. The top can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 31 mph, doing so in a 15-second round-trip time. What’s more, the window controls move in sync with the roof, meaning you can show off to the world at the touch of a button.

Lexus has updated the exterior palette of the new LC 500 convertible. The deck is available in black and sand, but buyers can choose from new colors including Super White, Cadmium Orange, Infrared, Storm Grey, Caviar and Flame Yellow. The LC 500 sips fuel at a combined 19 mpg. At 29 mpg combined, the hybrid ranks among performance coupes.
Even though it weighs about 4,500 pounds, the LC is light. This year’s suspension reforms could make things better — or at least we hope so. The optional rear-wheel steering didn’t impress us, though, so spend your money on fancy colors and interior trim.
Inside, look for a 10.3-inch screen with a thick user interface – although at least Lexus offers standard active safety technology in all areas where some rivals charge extra.

The $101,730 Nori Green Pearl LC 500 coupe with the Sport Package, head-up display, and Mark Levinson audio isn’t exactly how we’ve configured it. Lexus also offers a build-to-order program for wealthy customers who reserve substandard cars.
Although the original design is a few years old, it is as beautiful as ever. The LC still looks like a show car, in part because it recalls the outrageous LFA supercar of a few years ago. We rated it 10 out of 10. Interesting.
Of course, the hourglass grille isn’t for everyone, but there’s no denying that the LC’s sensual lines and angular details work very well together. Roadsters are fine with their roofs down, but they’re a bit of a pain when they’re up.

The LC 500 (both coupe and convertible) is quick thanks to a 471-hp 5.0-liter V-8 engine. The 10-speed automatic shifts quickly, though it’s worth using the optional rear limited-slip differential for the best traction, even from a standstill. Add an available sport exhaust system, and the V-8 LC 500 really does hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It’s not a fast supercar, but the LC 500 is a heavy beast.
The LC 500h combines a 3.5-liter V-6 with an electric motor and battery for a net 354 horsepower. Performance is linear with the clever CVT and 4-speed automatic transmission almost locked to EV level.

Even with all the weight it carries, the LC feels like an infantry fleet. It is well balanced and offers excellent steering feel when tackling twisty roads. Even in LC tracks it can be affected. We’re less excited about the available rear-wheel steering. It does the job, but is very expensive.
The interior of the 2023 Lexus LC is very nice, but certainly not spacious. Thanks to the coupe version’s small trunk and small rear seats, this 4 is TCC in scale. Beautifully decorated though.
The front seats offer all-day comfort and plenty of power adjustment. Although the rear seats have seat belts, they are actually used to store small items. And the items should be small and malleable, because accessing the second row is a challenge. Five cubic feet of trunk space is enough for a carry-on, which is small even by sports coupe standards.
We can’t say for sure, as neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS have been at fault for mistaking this beautiful coupe.
