Lexus Rx 2023 Images – The redesigned 2023 Lexus RX finally revolves around the much-hated touch controller and adds PHEV and performance variants.
The Lexus RX had three main features that could entice mid-size SUV buyers in recent years. Distinctive styling, below average price in its class and perceived reliability from the parent company. However, it wasn’t very exciting to drive and I was frustrated with the center screen user interface that frustrates and distracts you while driving.

At least that’s what the previous 2016 generation RX features. Lexus introduces a redesigned RX for 2023 with a new engine and other improvements. The best of them are –

The original RX 350 had long had a naturally aspirated V6 engine, but the new model lost two cylinders but added forced induction to make up for the power shortage. The 2023 RX 350 is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the outgoing model, the new RX has 20 fewer horsepower but 50 more lb-ft.
Lexus says the front-wheel-drive RX 350 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, and the all-wheel-drive option cuts the acceleration time to 7.2 seconds. The last front-wheel-drive RX 350 we tested had a 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds, so the new powertrain and about 200 pounds of weight savings seem to give it slightly quicker acceleration than its predecessor. We expect the new four-cylinder to be slightly more economical as well. The transmission remains an eight-speed automatic, and once again front and all-wheel drive are available.
Want to add guilt-free driving to the mix? You might want to consider the RX 450h+, a plug-in hybrid. This means it can cover short distances at full power before switching to normal hybrid mode with the petrol engine. However, at the time of publishing our review, Lexus has not released any information on what type of plug-in hybrid powertrain the RX 450h+ will have.
The 2023 RX is expected to be more powerful than the 350h, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and hybrid system that produces a combined 246 horsepower and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds. We wouldn’t be surprised if the RX 450h+ shares the same engine as its smaller Lexus sibling, the NX 450h+. The vehicle has a plug-in hybrid system that delivers 302 horsepower and can travel around 37 kilometers on a fully charged battery.

The RX 500h F Sport Performance is a completely different beast. It uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a hybrid system to produce 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Lexus says 0-60 mph will take a relatively quick 5.9 seconds. The last-generation RX 450h we tested, with 308 horsepower, took 7.3 seconds to reach 60 mph.
All-wheel drive is standard on the RX 500h F Sport Performance, which Lexus says is optimized for better traction on dry roads, as well as in typical snow or icy conditions. Safer handling and upgraded brakes specific to the RX 500h F Sport Performance will also help enhance the sportiness of the RX500h.
Lexus estimates the RX 500h F Sport Performance will get 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving. 93 mpg better than the RX 350 with 2 less horsepower. More power and better gas mileage – what’s not to like?
Lexus hasn’t revealed any details about the RX’s interior, but we do know a few things. The wheelbase is a few inches longer for 2023, giving front and rear passengers a little more legroom. Standard and available tech features include a heads-up display, adjustable ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof, all standard features for a luxury crossover SUV in this price range.

The most significant change, however, comes in the form of a new infotainment system. Lexus has finally done away with the touch panel controls that made the user interface so clunky and difficult on last year’s model. Instead, it uses a simple touchscreen, but has a pair of physical dials for quickly entering the desired temperature in the front seat climate system. We’ve tested this interface on newer Toyota and Lexus products, including the new Toyota Tundra and Lexus NX, and while it’s very simple, navigating the menus is much easier.
In the eight years since the RX’s last redesign, luxury SUVs have become more and more competitive, and Lexus has become increasingly prominent. With a complete overhaul of the 2023 Lexus RX, this mid-size SUV will have a fighting chance.

After covering its carbon reduction strategy using smaller batteries and its obsession with hydrogen, I know a lot of people are upset about Toyota’s conflicting words and actions regarding electric vehicles. Nine months ago I wrote about Toyota adding hybrids and plug-in hybrids to its vehicles as models undergo regular replacements, increasing fuel economy, reducing emissions and electrifying every accessory in its cars. It’s very different from the previous strategy as it uses the Prius line of vehicles with hybrid technology where 90% of the “regular” cars and trucks don’t have hybrids. Toyota and Lexus owners buy them as a “safe choice”. They’re usually not the best compared to the competition in most specifications, but they’re always decent cars and have a reputation for reliability and good resale value.
Lexus Rx Lineup Priced To Pair With Redesign
The RX lineup has moved from V6 engines to turbocharged four-cylinder engines, as many cars have done in recent years. The turbocharged engine’s unreliability has been reported, but that’s probably why Lexus has waited until now to change it. Turbochargers are common these days and should fix the bug. Disappointingly, fuel economy is 4% better (1MPG) for the new generation at the cost of 7% more horsepower (20HP). A weight savings of up to 198 pounds means the new base model should be 0.2 seconds quicker from 0 to 60 mph with less power. So overall, it’s not an upgrade from a six-year redesign.
Only 16% of Lexus RX sales in the first quarter of 2022 were hybrids. Considering its sister NX has more than 30% hybrids and PHEVs since last year’s redesign, the five-model 2023 RX/RZ lineup will include a traditional gas option, a two-option hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, and all. – the electric option (RZ). Thus, most sales will be in the four electric versions.
The RX 350h is a slightly bigger upgrade than the 450h it replaces. Get 10% better fuel economy (3 MPG) at the cost of 21% more horsepower (62 HP). With weight reduction and other improvements, the new model is half a second faster from 0 to 60! The older 450 hours required higher grade fuel that was fuel efficient. Hopefully the 350h doesn’t need it.
The 500h F Sport Performance is a huge performance upgrade over the 2022 350 F Sport, built to look faster and handle better, but with the same engine as the base model. The new 500h F Sport gets 26 MPG. That’s 4 MPG less than the 450h F Sport, but 4 MPG more than the RX 350 Sport. A 22% increase in power, along with lighter weight and other improvements, makes the new 1.8 model a full 2 seconds faster from zero to 60 times. This will allow the Lexus to compete with most luxury crossovers in acceleration for the first time. It’s still a long way from three generations of its fastest rivals, BMW and Tesla, but it’s making some progress. PHEV models can be faster!

Interior upgrades (such as upgrading the center screen from 12 inches to 14 inches) and safety upgrades complete the new model, but we’ll discuss that in a future article.
A base 350 h that gets 24 MPG should use 8,333 gallons over its 200,000 mile life. Now I realize the original buyer probably won’t keep the car past 200,000 miles, but the upgraded vehicle is worth it.
